Unfinished…the graduation speech that never happened
I want to find love with love in my heart of hearts and share that with you… and call that unity. I want to share with you the deeds we do for other people…and call that compassion. We are more than are students…we are the future. In the gaze of Sankofa, I’ll share with you something that troubles me, yet stirs me.
…and because I must share this with you, the graduating class, we have the chance to make the future, rather than simply be it. We must understand our function as being afrikan-black. Everyone wants to be us, but no one wants to have our burdens. And with these eyes I’ve seen that even we do not want to be together because we are lacking in that one thing…unity.I mean no ill will, but this observation is as true as the diplomas you are about to receive. And with that rite of passage comes a certain responsibility…
Allow me to now drop the constant use of “I” and “Me”…
for Its a lonely world when I and Me are all that are involved…and with low expectations, how do you expect to go anywhere let alone trust another person in collective accountability….
“If nobody wants to hear you,
do you change your tune to something they consider worthy?
and if you do are you still you,
an added tune fabricated to the point you are the synthesizer,
fuck the truth I want inner peace
…Kill the earth and let the children grow,
so one day we’ll all know, God is love”. (reconsider length of quote. idea may stay, but quote must go)
We don’t run from anything we run through it (blah motivational stuff here)
Stuff about being a messenger(fill in later, we have time)
“I am more than black
I am descendant of Kings and Queens
And I shall remember where I came from
To know where I am going” ~ Sankofa
